Born in Tasmania, Elizabeth Barsham (formerly painting as E.M. Christensen), grew up in Hobart and studied art in Melbourne under Wesley Penberthy and Ming Mackay. Elizabeth’s paintings have won many awards and have been acquired by Monash University and private collectors throughout the world. She exhibits regularly and has been teaching drawing and painting for many years, firstly in Melbourne, then in Hobart since returning in 1997.
Elizabeth's uniquely imaginative paintings and drawings are an emotional expression of her ancestral connection to the landscape and its people. A descendant of the first convict settlers, she has also written several books and articles about Tasmanian family history and was the first Tasmanian to publish a book about a convict ancestor.
“Art is my life; it is what I do. Almost as important to me is passing on the knowledge I have accumulated over a lifetime of painting. After a few lessons and plenty of practice, anybody can learn to paint well enough to enjoy an absorbing pastime.”
